entirely true, but exaggerated for comic effect
what to wear when it’s really really cold

January 5

Bright colored wool and wool-blend coats are big this year, but honestly, a down coat will keep you warmer. My go-to winter coat is a cashmere-blend pea coat with Thinsulate lining — but I live in Oklahoma and my biggest outdoor adventure is scooting from my car to the front door of the Target. If you’re going to be walking around outside or loading kids in and out of the car, invest in a substantial winter coat for every day.

I think you should just stay inside in your jammies (yoga pants) all day! :)

Last day of winter break for us.

I’m stealing your photo-a-day idea, but I’m not going to be sharing them on my blog! Oh no!

It’s a great idea.

My new favorite coat is the lavender wool, 3/4 length coat my sister gave me from her closet last summer. (Pastel, not bright–further proof I’m no slave to fashion!) It is such a breath of spring in the depths of gray, cold Ohio winter. Plus, it keeps by butt warm. Happy mood and warm heiney. Nothin’ better.

LOVE your purple/plum coat! I’ve realized that living in the unpredictable temperatures in Oklahoma are finally requiring me to think about my socks. My tootsies have been sooooo cold and tomorrow….even colder! (although I’ll be home…with the kids…because school is cancelled….which is fine because there isn’t much landscaping to be done when it’s frozen…but I digress…) I’m all about warm, cozy, wool socks now! and knee socks!

I have one of those “frumpy” down coats that goes down over my knees. Yes, at 5′1″ I look like I’m wearing my sleeping bag. However, when I walk five blocks to my kids’ school, wait 10-15 minutes for my kids to find their way outside, and then walk five blocks home again with a slooow first grader, I love my coat. Chicago has it’s own style (or lack thereof) in January.
Leigh, I am also in love with wool socks. Smartwool knee-highs are the best!

I knew there was no way that this was about a Snuggie. (But yes, that is what I am wearing right now.)

27 below here this morning. Not that I’m complaining, oh wait, yes I am!!

ok that new hair color is FANTASTIC!

I’ve been scouting your Flickr photos with all those skinny-jeans shots, and I just have to ask: how in the world do you stay so thin? Seriously between you and Chris Jordan I feel like I’m missing some memo on how busy SAHMs stay skinny even after having had multiple children!

Ok obviously you have frozen to death someplace in your pretty coat… I love your coat but I’ve seen it about 178567 times in the last oh I don’t know two weeks?

Hope all is well in Oklahoma.

Javamom

P.S. Susan, keep meaning to tell you your hair color looks fabulous on you!

I have almost the exact some coat. Mine was from Old Navy and it only cost me $30! Thank goodness for 50% off sales!
