I walked past my local JCrew store not two hours ago and did a double-take when I saw that coat on a mannequin. I had to walk into the store and touch it. The version I saw was in cream, and it was lovely.

What is a Fail Whale? (I’ll google it)

I too dislike shopping for myself, clothes, house, whatever. Recently I just bought/ordered nearly 20k in furniture for our new house and felt absolutely DEPRESSED the entire time. Shouldn’t I have been on cloud nine? Seriously, I think I need mental help!! And clothes….even harder for me!!

And you have pretty much described how I often feel about ANY kind of significant purchase. Gah.

I am with you on JCrew and their outrageous shipping. And their shoddy website as of late.

I have the SAME depressed/stressed out/mental breakdown when it comes to shopping. Johna, I would have needed to check into a mental hospital after ordering 20K worth of furniture. I sympathize. Susan, the 2nd coat is ADORABLE, and I too like it even better than coat #1. LOVE the tabs on the waist.

So the J Crew phone service center is here in my town and I worked for them for about 2 weeks a few years ago… (they get lots of calls from famous people like Julia Roberts and Tom Cruise!) they are out of everything all the time because they are slowly transitioning from the old J Crew (everything is always available, have all you want) to a new… chic… J Crew (there are only a few of each item and if you pay enough, you can be one of the special people who get to wear our amazing clothes).

So… that explains Metalia’s second-to-last statement.

I totally feel your pain on the guilt/hate of shopping. After losing 20 pounds recently and because of constantly reading you and Metalia and Whoorl and Slynro and HeatherB, I got on the J Crew website to order some damn black pants that fit. This was to be my second order in a couple of months (also had to order THE dress) after years of ordering nothing. Of course, I ended up with $200 worth of stuff and felt bad about it.

Long story short, thanks to a glitch with their site, they shipped everything to the wrong address. And then gave me the run around for three weeks about what would happen. I finally told them that I would not be ordering anything online from them again and was promptly awarded with a $100 gift card.

So, I think I ordered that very same coat in chocolate (they have so many, I’m not sure) and ended up paying $50 out of pocket (most of that was for the crazy expensive shipping. Can’t Mir find us a deal on that?). Everyone please cross your fingers that it actually arrives this time so that I don’t have to permanently break up with them.

And many thanks to all of my shopping enablers.

You two crack me up.
I had racked up 5-6 things and $300 in my JCrew e-cart yesterday before the site went Jonah and the Fail Whale. Which is why I love J Crew…saving me from cashmere T-shirts, matchstick jeans (something one should obviously try on), leather peep-toes and myself one HTML issue at a time.

Also- both of those coats are total classics, just in case #2 becomes available to you again!

ugh - why can’t jcrew have a better shipping rate? i think that’s the one that stops me everytime. although when i get the catalog and see everything at full price and then see everything on sale at the site…it’s so hard. sigh.

i do loooove that pink coat.

and yeah if only that site would work better.
