entirely true, but exaggerated for comic effect
three!

Yesterday was a good day. The kind of day where a door closed but an even better window opened. Three windows, in fact.

Three good things happened yesterday, and while I cannot tell you what they are, I can tell you this: March is off to a very good start. And it’s only going to get better.

My Day of Good Things included an unplanned lunch date with my husband, which was lovely not only because it was an hour of adult conversation with one of my favorite people, but also because it meant getting dressed and leaving the house to go somewhere other than the grocery or the carpool line. That in itself is a good thing.

March 2

This dress was $40 at Ann Taylor and is easily one of the best things in my closet, although despite the fact that I wear it quite literally all the time, I only yesterday realized that it has those little loops in the shoulder to hold my bra straps. Hooray! And the necklace — which I also wear all the time — is J. Crew via eBay, also for $40, which makes it a very good thing.

Big things are coming, you all, and I’m so excited I can hardly stand it.  But for now it’s your turn: tell me something good that’s happened to you this week. Anything at all! No good thing is too small.

Ready? Share.

Today is my birthday. There were hand-made pictures, lasagna made by someone other than me and fruit tart from a local bakery. All good things.

Two good things: I just finished our taxes and have a nice refund on the way, and I just found out that my fellowship will pay for my graduate school fees (tuition is obviously covered, but fees are a major bonus). Yeah for a little financial boost!

Well, it’s kinda a long story, and offhand it doesn’t really sound like it’s all that great. But I’m going in for surgery at the Mayo Clinic tomorrow morning. I’ve had ulcerative colitis for a few years, and finally decided to have surgery to get rid of the disease. Which means I’ve had to wear a delightful, lovely, glamorous, and dazzling ostomy bag. SOOOO fabulous, lemme assure you.

Anyway, I’m here @ Mayo to have my second and final surgery to get rid of my ostomy so my body can return to functioning as normal. And that, in my book, is a v.v. good thing.

My big three: donut holes, kolaches, and a playdate where my mom friends ran after my kiddos so my pregnant self could park on the couch. Holla!

You always look so fabulous!

I think the best thing about my day was seeing my students (I teach 8th grade English) be really successful while writing an essay. Felt good!

Our youngest OKC niece is getting married this weekend. After being informed her future father-in-law is being quickly deployed to Afganistan; her family and her future in-laws pulled together a wedding in 8 days! Whoo Hoo! Our niece gave up her long planned “dream” wedding in August to make sure her future FiL was present at her wedding; because that was her fiance’s ultimate wish. We are so proud of her! And, we realize many, many families in our country make this type of decision every day when receiving notice of deployment. We appreciate each and every person who is impacted by this type of situation.

Not one of my 3 kids are sick this week! That’s a good thing, right?

Watching my grandson delight in the celebration of his 2nd birthday was a wonderful thing.

Let’s see, it is early, but I asked my son to remember something this morning and much to my surprise, he did! Sounds small, but it is a big accomplishment for my 7 year old!

I finally bought a pair of skinny jeans and they don’t look half bad. I haven’t worn jeans like these since 1983!

The best things happening in my life are my sister is getting married…not in August, but Saturday. AND, my “life-style change” seems to be working!!!

Yesterday was a whole day in which my baby didn’t spit up on me ; ) And then I got to shower - not for spit-up smell elimination, but just for me!!

On Monday, I changed my personal blog to a beauty and style blog aimed at women of a certain age. I’ve put up five posts so far and my hits have tripled. Apparently I’m way more interesting when I’m not dithering on about myself. Who knew?

Tuesday I applied to be the democrat Lt Gov candidate in Illinois. Today I will make myself a facebook fan page. It’s crazy, but I’m serious.

One of my dearest friends called to tell me she is pregnant with long-awaited baby #2. :)

I am dying to know your news!

My fabulous 2 year can count to ten! He’s really proud of himself and seeing his delight makes me grin. Also my hubby and I have a date this evening. Two great things to smile about. :)

It is supposed to be in the 60’s all week here in Oklahoma City; while I’d prefer 70’s, I’ll take it!

Can’t wait to hear about all your fabulous things happening, HOPING one of those things involves a trip to Chicago or at least NYC in August!!!

My big thing of the week was planning my honeymoon (Rivera Maya!) and getting my wedding dress fitted! Only 178 days away!!

The most fabulous part of my day was hearing you say that about the bra strap loops. I had no idea that’s what those were for…

Can’t wait to hear your good news!

Yesterday I got to meet and see the studio of a famous potter who I idolize. He’s amazing, an old man, and I feel lucky just to have been there for the 15 minutes that I was. Touching his pottery is like touching the hands of God.

I bought my plane tickets to BlogHer. And I got new awesome cheap ($8) glasses in the mail that I love. It’s got me very excited for two mini vacations in August. When I thought I wouldn’t be able to attend BlogHer this year I was so so sad. I am sad no more. I can’t wait to see NYC. It will be my first time.

I love your outfit! A good thing about today: it’s sunny and I have a date tonight.

I realized that the person whose position I am temporarily at work is coming back on MONDAY! I am very excited and ready to start my NEW position on April 1 (have to transition back to the permenant girl first).

I discovered our university’s cafeteria has an awesome salad bar…I volunteered at the elementary school book fair…AND a project was accepted for publication. It’s been a sweet week.

You look lovely! I really need to start wearing something other than jeans. . .

As for good things: I just sold a piece of writing which makes me very happy (and surprised!) And I’m planning a super fun, girls-only getaway for this spring. Even though that won’t happen for a while, knowing how much fun that’ll be will keep me going for quite a while.

I just landed a new project for a client that I hadn’t done work for in a while. And our son lost his first tooth this morning, which has been pretty exciting!

I am so glad to read this… and excited for your 3 good things!! (And God I love that dress!)

But it’s been a crazy week with runny noses and sore throats and a kid getting diagnosed with ADHD and who is in a class where there ARE no nice kids (reading your previous post about Henry’s stories… LOVE that and I wish Henry was in my daughter’s class) and it’s been a sleepless week of generally muddy, trenchy motherhood stuff… so I was going to skip commenting because I have nothing good to stay, but then I remembered…

I have to study! (I am getting to my point… really!) And I have to study because I am back in school this semester and I have my first exam this week. I’m heading to another graduate degree in something I really love and although I don’t know HOW people with kids ever have time to study, I am figuring it out. Because I’ve jumped off this cliff that I’ve been eyeing for a long time. So THAT is my good thing.

Thank you for the reminder!

We had a car accident this week which is not a good thing, but we are all fine. The rest of it doesn’t really matter as long as my family is fine!

1) Realizing my skin has gotten thicker.
2) Locally made poppy seed bagels for lunch. They’re my favorite kind of bagel and impossible to find, so, really, having them is a very good thing. :)

I am home alone—for the entire day!

1) the Weather in OKC this week makes me joyous! bedding plants are starting to appear in local nurseries…the season for warm gardening has begun!
2) my plumber just gave me estimates that make me right about something and my husband very wrong…when DH thought I had no idea what I was talking about…
3)Validation of what I was worried about being a selfish act being actually the totally right call.

I wish every top I owned had those bra strap loops. It would save me from looking really silly several times a day.

I cleaned my house (well, the main floor) so I could have friends over for our weekly coffee. It was my turn to host. Not only was the conversation Wednesday afternoon great, but so is the fact that my house is STILL CLEAN. I was giddy walking down the stairs this morning!

I found out yesterday I’ve only gained 6 pounds so far in my pregnancy. That was happy news indeed :)

I had one of the best times I’ve ever had with my father at the Maryland/Duke basketball game. It was really great. :)

Oh that necklace, THAT NECKLACE! Didn’t you wear it in Houston and I saw it from across a crowded room, like the clouds had parted, because it’s so beautiful? I thought so.

[…] week, when I said that three good things had happened? Here is part one of the first good thing: this morning I interviewed Laura Bennett for […]
