I went to college in a tiny little town in the middle of nowhere. We were so far from the Big City that we had our own volunteer fire department, to respond to emergencies, because it would take too long for the Big City firefighters to get to us. Some of the volunteers were guys who went to school with us, and I can remember them dragging into class in the morning after being up all night responding to calls. I had a lot of respect for those guys, honestly. They were a little bit crazy, but they were good people, and they took good care of our little college town.
And they were volunteers, you all. Which is a whole other kind of good people.
So how can you thank those crazy guys who come when you call 911? Eat ice cream! Today is Baskin Robbins 31 Scoop Night; from 5:00 pm until 10:00 pm, every scoop of ice cream is 31 cents, in honor of firefighters. And, as if that weren’t enough, there’s this: BR is making a $10,000.00 donation to the National Volunteer Firefighter Council’s Junior Firefighter Program. But there’s more! Local firefighters will be stopping by Baskin Robbins to collect donations and scoop ice cream.
Cheap ice cream, hot firefighters, and a good cause. What more could you ask for?
(Seriously, firefighters! And ice cream! I love you Baskin Robbins.)

I’ve never wished there was a Baskin Robbins in my town so much in my life.

Um, as if I needed another reason to go to BR!
Also, did we go to the same college? Mine was so in the boondocks, our firefighters AND our EMTs were all volunteers, and not just volunteers but student volunteers (as young as sophomores) at that!

We got our ice cream tonight. Don’t tell my husband, but the firefighters were hot…what is it about firefighters?

Not only were the scoops .31, but so were the toppings and waffle cones. I haven’t had a waffle cone in so long. It was the best .62 I have ever spent.
But alas, no firefighters at our BR. Although, the kids did sit still and eat all their dinner for some ice cream. That is priceless.
Thanks for your reminder on Twitter. I had forgotten and would have been majorly upset if I missed it.

So glad to hear you had fun at 31 Cent Scoop Night. =) Love the pics on Twitter, too!
Alas, we did not have firefighters at the one I went to in Cambridge, MA (at least when I was there). But it was fun to have ice cream for dinner. =)

I can’t believe I missed it! I’m never going to hear the end of this one from my firefighter uncle…
