Little known fact about me: I cannot watch myself on television. Or any kind of video whatsoever. Which is killing me today because I really want to watch this clip, if only to see Ree and Michelle. Because my god they are both adorable. (Honestly, I may have to suck it up and watch the entire thing, rather than muting it and cringing the entire way through, which is what I did this morning.)
What I liked the most about these girls was this: they get the idea of community, and they understand how important it is to find a way to give back. That and they’re both really really funny.
I can’t watch the video (seriously, it’s killing me), but you can, and then you can go do some good in your neighborhood. The bottom line is this: anything you do to make the world a better place, no matter how big or small, makes the world — a better place. Go figure.
What did we miss? How are you giving back? Let’s hear it. I’ll be over here cowering behind my hands because omg video!

I loved the video and you shouldn’t be cringing at all! Watch it.
Here is how I gave back recently after being inspired by Robyn at Mix Mingle Glow who did this as well. It was awesome. http://www.sowonderfulsomarvelous.com/2010/04/34-random-ish-acts-of-kindness-birthday.html And you know, I don’t think you even need to do something so extreme. Imagine if everyone made a commitment to do just ONE random act of kindness each week?

I have been a volunteer more than half my life (luckily have the time for it), and there are many very deserving projects out there. When you have to use the services yourself, the cause becomes even more deserving and special. This website is in honor of my extremely healthy but still teeny granddaughter. http://marchforbabies.org/ggriggs

What a well spoken woman you are. I feel happy to “know” you if only in blogland.
And I still love that necklace you were wearing!

I had another thought after I hit submit… so many times, I do these things, that seem like “little things” to me… donate school supplies or diapers or canned foods… but it’s just me throwing an extra few things in my cart at the grocery store and then dropping them off in a donation box or sending them in to school with the kids. I don’t feel connected to the project, I guess. Maybe it’s more about the connection than the amount of time or money you spend… getting together with friends to put the bags of supplies together, or loading the diapers up in your car to actually deliver them. (Not that just sending them in isn’t good, but I think I am more motivated when I feel a connection. Does that make sense?)

Your video was awesome. You hit the nail on the head - it is the small things people do that can make the biggest impact. Great Job Susan!

First, you look and sound perfectly adorable. I think the point you made was a good one- you don’t have to give big to give back. We don’t think about the cumulative power of the little things, but they really do add up.

You were fabulous - warm and professional at the same time. And I totally concur that the small things - meeting the needs you see around you in any way you can - is what makes all the difference.
