entirely true, but exaggerated for comic effect
political rhetoric, second grade style

Henry has been talking about the election with his friends at school, assessing who is voting for whom (second graders are a hotly contested demographic you know).  Each day he comes home and reports what his friends have told him about Barack Obama.

“My friends said that if Obama is elected, he will give every student who votes for him $100.”

“My friends said that if Obama gets to be president, no one will be allowed to have any more babies.”

“My friends said that Obama is a smoker, and when he’s president he will make it a law that we all have to smoke.”

Please make note of all that when you head to the polls on Tuesday.

Ah, the world through a second-grader’s eyes.

My kids are catching all kids of hell for going to Catholic school and talking up Obama. Can’t wait until it’s over!

um…all KINDS of hell, that is.

I teach elementary school, and my students bring up the election ALL the time. I get conversations like, “I heard Obama is going to raise taxes!” “I didn’t hear that! I head McCain wants to keep people in the war! My brother’s in that war and I want him to come home!”

Also: “Who are you voting for? I’m voting for Obama.” “I’m voting for McCain. My dad says Obama is scary.” “You guys, we can’t vote, remember?”

I’m going, “Could you all finish your math? Please??”

If Obama is handing out $100 bills, then he’s got my vote! ;-)

Funny. I have adult friends and relatives who believe things about Obama that are crazier than those!!!! And they aren’t kidding. OR in second grade.

I also heard from a second grader that if Obama is elected, we will have school on Saturday.

Hey I just wanted to make sure your friend tries to get in touch with this Obama supporter.

Birds of a feather flocking together and all. :)

My daughter, six, told me yesterday that “I found out that John McCain killed Barack’s grandmother. Now i REALLY don’t like him.”

Uhmm, sweetie, not exactly.

Second grade was a defining year for my politically. My 2nd grade teacher told us that Mondale would make us go to school all year and kill babies. Not joking. Of course my friends and I became adrent Reagan supporters. Until my grandmother set me straight. Come to think of it, that might be the last time I supported a Republican!
