This morning at breakfast, the boys had the following conversation:
Charlie: Henry, I drank SO MUCH last night. Did you SEE how much I DRANK?
Henry: Yeah, I drank a lot but not nearly as much as you.
Charlie: No, I totally drank more than you did.
Honestly, I thought they would be a little older before I had to overhear those kinds of exchanges, but I guess not. At least they aren’t talking about girls. Yet.
We had a lovely Valentine’s day dinner out, with the kids and Wade’s parents, because nothing says romance like eating barbecue with the entire family. The boys were very well behaved and only spilled one glass of water each on the nice white tablecloths.
And for the record, they were drinking milk and water. And Charlie did drink a lot. But he did not punch any paparazzi, although Henry did take his shoes off during dinner.
Can you tell I’ve been reading a lot of celebrity gossip lately?
I do not know how to account for the last week, although I appreciate all the emails with subject lines like “where the hell are you?” and “are you DEAD?!?” I am finally not sick (woo!) after a trip to Urgent Care and a SECOND course of antibiotics. I spent most of last weekend sleeping, including all of Sunday afternoon while my visiting mother cooked dinner for my in-laws. She also did some laundry and kept the kids from wandering away or breaking anything. Best. Mom. EVER. Seriously.
But other than the fact that my kids drank too much last night, nothing is really new. Wait, didn’t Britney Spears mother once say that EXACT SAME THING?!? And look where it got her.

Thank god you’re back! I would have sent one of those “where the hell are you?!” e-mails, except I figured something Big and Serious might be going on, in which case e-mails like that might drive a person crazy. At any rate, glad you’re back, healthy, and well-rested. (Aren’t moms great? I wish I could pay mine to move to my town.)

Happy you are better!
Your Mom sounds every kind of wonderful. I wish mine was not eighteen hours away.
The saga of Britney Spears must make you SO THANKFUL you have two boys, hey?

YAY, you’re back! I was starting to get worried! I am glad you are better! Love the conversation between the boys. A little glimpse 15 or so years ahead. Our Valentine dinner was me and the kids at home. Husband stuck at work. I drank a lot, but it wasn’t milk!

I love celebrity gossip. I hate celebrity gossip. I can’t stay away from celebrity gossip.
Try saying that three times fast.

But is the drinking interfering with their lives?

I just had lunch with a certain blogger who writes for a certain weekly gossip mag. She said SHE MAKES UP EVERY SINGLE WORD. I find this so fascinating. She said the few times she has come in with actual facts, the editors say “Oh, no, not interesting enough.”

I am SO glad that you are BACK! Mainly because I am completely addicted to your blogs and come back and check constantly to see if you’ve added anything new and I get all jittery if you haven’t because I rely on your advice and wit and wisdom and Henry cracks me up and and and…. And I’m really glad you’re feeling so much better!

Hi Susan,
This is my first comment, I believe, but just wanted to pop in to thank you for the morning giggle.

Giggle. My friend told of catching her kids playing a drinking game (quarters) with glasses of water. If you hadn’t looked at the contents of their glasses, it sounded like the real thing, but with 7 and 9 yr old voices yelling, “Chug! Chug! Chug!”

Glad you are back and feeling better. Am I a bad mom for teaching my girls to raise their glasses at dinner and say, “Cheers” and “Salud?”
