Wade and I sent the kids upstairs to play after dinner tonight, so that we could have five minutes of adult conversation, which is huge these days since I tend to fall into bed about thirty seconds after the boys do each night. One thing led to another and pretty soon we were deconstructing the Palin nomination, again, because we’re both still flabbergasted by that whole debacle and we like to entertain ourselves by imagining what the McCain staffers might have been drinking or how exactly they arranged the dart board when they made the choice to offer her the second slot on the ticket.
We’re still stumped.
So we’re having a fairly smart conversation about how the GOP hoped this would affect voter turnout and who the other more viable choices were and what the long-term repercussions of all this might be for the Republican party at large and for John McCain himself, and then Wade goes into one of his favorite Homer Simpson moments, when Homer has his hand caught in a vending machine and is calling out, “Snack related mishap!”
Except that my husband is wandering around the kitchen saying, “Election related mishap! Running mate related mishap!”
I think that summs it up, really.

I will be scratching my head and silently chuckling about her selection for a long long time.

Oh my. We must never meet, because that would increase the distinct possibility that our husbands would meet and then there would be no end to the Simpson references. It’s bad over here. bad. not as bad as mcPalin though.

Ok that’s funny. And while I pretty much decided that Obama would DEFINTELY get my vote once she was picked, I have to say, in all honesty, that at least she was nice to look at.
I’m really shallow like that.

Can’t you admit, though, that she did dress well? It seems like they spent more money than they needed to, but at least there were no orange prison jumpsuits, I mean pantsuits.

I am stumped as well. When you think of all the qualified Republican women they could have picked it just boggles the mind. Condaleeza Rice, hello?? I never would have voted for McCain no matter who he chose but I’m glad that they did choose Palin, it definitely helped Obama in the end.
My daughter’s kindergarten teacher is named Mrs. Palen and P knew that a “Mrs Palin” was running for VP. I took her with me into the voting booth and when she saw that I was voting for Obama she loudly said, “Why aren’t you going to vote for Mrs. Palin?” I had to tell her, “no dear, we’re democrats.”
