You all are going to LOVE this. Seriously.
I ran to J. Crew this afternoon to try the pea coat on in person before I ordered (because when the Internet says BUY THE COAT! I listen, let me tell you) — the store here only had it in black, but I figured I could check the size and also maybe try on some other stuff because you never know what else might be useful.
Like this pencil skirt. In black. Maybe. Anyway …
So I get to the store and I’m gathering up things to try on and looking for the pea coats and I run into my favorite sales associate, who also happens to be the store’s personal shopper! And I tell her about the coat and how the Internet said I should get it in plum and she says, “Oh I LOVE that color!” and we talk about which size would fit best and she says that she can place the order from the store for me, if I like. I tell her that I want to use the free shipping code and she says, sure! no problem!
So far so good.
So I’m digging through sweaters looking for something bulky to try on with the pea coat and Sarah the Personal shopper comes back from setting me up with a fitting room and tells me that the store is running a promotion where, if I let her help me shop, I can get 20% off my total purchase. INCLUDING the coat, which will already ship for free.
Excellent.
I try some things on and decide on the skirt and a necklace (in black, of course) and while I’m standing around in the dressing room trying to decide which size pea coat fits best and if I want to size up so I can layer or size down and add the Thinsulate lining, Sarah the Personal Shopper comes in with even more good news: the pea coat is currently $189.00 in the store! Plus 20% off! PLUS FREE SHIPPING!
ZOMG!!!
Here’s where things went a little off the rails: the purple pea coat is, of course, back ordered until late November, which will not help me when I go to Chicago in TWO WEEKS. I may have teared up a little when Sarah told me that, BUT she’s a professional and she said, “We can do a search! And see if there’s a store that has it! Don’t worry!” And then she arranged for a search AND arranged for me to get both the current in-store discount AND the personal shopper discount AND the Thinsulate lining. In purple! Woo!
And then I kissed her. No not really, but it was hard to resist.
Two hours later, I got an email from J. Crew announcing that they had found my coat! and it will ship in the next 24 - 48 hours. And two hours after that I got another email announcing that my coat has shipped! and will arrive in 4 - 7 days.
So thank you, Internet, for your input. And thank you, Sarah the Personal Shopper, for your help.
Purple pea coat! Say it with me, people.

All I have to say is don’t wear that coat or that necklace around Rhi. Or she will knock you unconscious and steal them from you.
You are going to be so stylish in Chicago. Of course you always are.

That is fantastic and shows that you should definitely ask the internet to dress you more often! So great!!!

My personal shopper’s name is Megan. I like it when she brings me teeny water bottles in the dressing room.

My personal shopper is Kristy. We’re meeting in a week. I’m sure it will be love at first sight. But I’m still nervous. WHAT DO I WEAR??

Oh my lord, that’s like the most successful trip to J. Crew anyone has ever made in the history of shopping, I’m certain.

Don’t say it too many times, too fast. I can’t get pee pee coat out of my head. Maybe it was the yellow you linked to originally that I’m stuck on.
Sarah rocks! Glad the coat will get to go to Chicago as well! Have fun, you ravishing plum coat, you.

Woot! You totally rocked shopping today! I’ve been having an “I need to buy new things because it’s fall” itch lately, offset by “OMG I am spending a gazillion dollars on fleets of workers to renovate my kitchen how can I possibly think of buying A LATTE let alone new clothes” scratch. Your delightful shopping seems to have calmed me a bit - there’s almost no way I could do as well as you did…so why try?

Sounds fabulous! And I love that skirt too, but my husband was not so crazy about it. I hope you get years of fashionable use out of it.

I love the J Crew sales associates who want nothing more than to save you money, and will totally go out of their way to make everything as cheap as humanly possible!
I just bought that necklace a couple days ago - LOVE!

Purple Pea Coat! I love it! And I’m not an accountant or anything, but I think all that stuff should be tax deductible because the internet told you to buy it, right? (Either that or you should get advertising revenue from J. Crew, because I’m heading over there now.)

Ummm…I want a personal shopper! Do all JCrews have this? Are they free to use? Details woman!

So glad you went with purple. I have a fabulous red jcrew coat from a few years ago with the thinsulate lining … and it totally kept up with the cold all winter. Even living in New York.

Excellent results. I don’t have the funds for personal shoppers (or J. Crew for that matter– think more “old navy”) so it’s nice to live vicariously through those that do!

Holy moly. FABULOUS! I’m so very happy for you. And I didn’t even get to buy ANYTHING. So I must be really happy for you. heh. It makes me want to run right out and buy something because I really LOVE that purple pea coat so very much. And living in Wisconsin we cannot have too many coats. Trust me on this one.
