My 6-year-old nephew broke his leg - the big bone up top - which then required two rods and two surgeries (a third will be required in six months to remove the rods), six weeks in a cast from his toes to his armpits, another six weeks in a split and a wheel chair, then the use of a walker and physical rehab. The kid is just now going back to school from Christmas break. The broken leg incident happened on New Year’s Eve. Can you say heapin’ dose of guilt? Yes, my sister can!
There have been 3 broken arms in our house in my life with 4 kids. My friends jokingly say it is becasue they don’t drink enough milk….me, I think it is because they swing from the ceiling fans and climb like monkeys.
It is rough (moms heart breaks over and over again) for the first couple of days, and then they act like the cast is an extension of themselves. It amazes me how quickly kids bounce back with injuries like this.
OH, I just wanna kiss him and make it all better!
My littlest guy fractured his wrist last summer by trying to fly down the basement stairs like Peter Pan. No joke.
Poor Froggie.
Oh what a precious (and heartbreaking) picture! We have not had a broken bone here yet (did I really just type that? stupid!), but my Charlie broke another kid’s arm in my yard (unauthorized tackle football game). Also both lower bones. And if it looked anything like this kid, yeah, you did not want to see it.
Ouch. Poor little guy. Could he look any sweeter? (I think you should go for the pony. He won’t appreciate the Porsche yet.)
No ponies please. They poop. However, many many treats. Whatever he wants. Thousands of dollars worth of “will you ever forgive me for not being here when you broke your first limb” treats.

His little arm looks so skinny.
But he is clearly very brave and pensive and is considering what color pony (or Porsche) he would like.

Sweet little guy! It’s a right of passage for boys, I think. Hope that it’s easier than you think it will be to care for a slightly broken little guy.

And can I just add that I love the fact that Charlie’s arm is in focus, but not Charlie so much…
