On Monday, I took Charlie to the orthopedist for his last visit — you know, the one where they tell you that even though he has healed up perfectly and everyone is very happy and very impressed and you don’t need to come back thank you, there is still a risk that he could refracture the arm at any time in the next year or so. THAT visit.
Awesome.

Yes my kid is wearing Crocs. Shut up.
At the very first visit to the orthopedist, when his arm was still mauled and he was all jacked up on pain killers, Charlie had asked if he could have his X rays, the set from the ER. And the doctor said, “No, I need those, so I can make sure your arm heals.”
Charlie was crushed. Although that could have been the Lortab, too.
So yesterday morning, he climbs in my lap and whispers in my ear, “Do you think the doctor will let me keep my X rays this time?” And I said, “Ask him.”
Charlie had one last set of X rays yesterday, just to make sure that he will father mutants one day his arm was completely and properly healed, and then we waited to see the doctor. When he was all done, Charlie asked about his X rays, and the doctor explained, very nicely, that he needed to keep them, in case anything else happened to Charlie’s arm. Charlie was clearly disappointed, so the doctor said to me, “If you have a camera, we can put them up on the viewer and you can take a picture.”
“Sure,” I said, “That will work.”
He looked surprised. “Do you have a camera with you?”
And Charlie said, “She ALWAYS has a camera.”

Oh my gosh, he broke both bones? Poor guy. I’m glad he has copies of the x-rays… he’s a cutie.

OUCH… no kidding!!!!!
i did the exact same thing with roo-girl’s arm xray in april. but i will say that charlie’s break is WAY more impressive.

I knew the break was bad. But dear God. How did you not throw up? I think I would have thrown up. I’m considering throwing up just looking at photos of x-rays of a kid that’s not even mine.
Let’s hope nothing like this happens to my kid. Otherwise for the rest of my life I’ll probably hear, “Mom remember when I cracked my arm out of the skin and you threw up all over the ER doc? Yeah, that was awesome. Way to make it all about you.”

I look at that and say, “OMG, poor WADE!” because as bad as that looks, I know he felt a zillion times worse than Charlie.

Now that’s a fracture. And it’s all healed. The human body is amazing.

Oh my god. He was so broken! But that is so cool to have the x-rays now (pictures of them totally count).

Whoa! That is quite a break. (I am feeling a little queasy too.) Charlie is ONE TOUGH KID! (And he looks very cool in his Crocs.) Great idea to take pictures, and what a great mom, always having the camera handy!

OK, I am TOTALLY freaked out by that X-ray. He is gonna be a surgeon some day. Someone who can look at those and think they are cool is destined to be a doctor. I hope you have started his college fund. Congrats on surviving this event.

I’m with Catherine above - I probably would have puked. And boy, would I not have liked to be the only parent around when it happened! Poor Wade indeed!

And that’s why you should always carry a camera!

B broke his arm last year, too bad his mother is not as photo obsessed, those are some pictures he’d love to have! And, K has worn her Crocs pretty much non-stop for the past month - they are practical and easy to deal with, what more could I ask for?
Oh, and I love Charlie’s “she ALWAYS has a camera” - K would probably tell you the same thing about me!

UGH! OUCH! I can barely look at those pictures.
I think a year with no tree climbing, jumping, sitting precariously on anything high, running, etc. is in order. How possible is that, ya think? =P

So I was eating breakfast before this. Now I’m grimacing at the thought your child actually suffered this. Glad he’s better

Wow, that’s a bad break, poor fella! I’m the same way with my camera- I have pictures of my daughter in recovery after her hernia surgery and pictures of my thumb when I was in the ER after I cut the top off with a mandolin! Memories, I tell ya!

I showed my stepdaughter this edition - she broke her arm a few years ago the same way. She asked me how I started reading “blogs” and why yours. I said “because she LOVES her kids and makes me laugh” and there are times when we all need to laugh. Thank you! For being such a GREAT MOM, a great wife and an honest writer. I have enjoyed hearing from you that my life is no different than anyone elses.

It almost physically hurt to see those x-rays! Wow, what a brave kid. The apple didn’t fall far from the tree.
I rock red crocs at work. People at work actually bought them because they liked mine. Go figure.

I winced looking at those pics. I think I missed the original story of how it happened. E goes for her last xray for her leg tomorrow. I think she has the same color crocs!

Owie. I’m with all the others who are a bit squeamish looking at those pictures.
I loved Charlie’s response to the doc asking if you had your camera. Priceless.

A. Crocs are a Colorado company so I proudly support your Crocability.
B. The broken bone photos made me hide under my desk.
C. There is a huge joke in my house that if Declan ever went missing and the police asked for a recent photo, I would say, “Would you like the 9am photo? 10am? How about 11:15?”
