entirely true, but exaggerated for comic effect
a little perspective

Chris: Here’s the thing about being 40 …

Me: Yes?

Chris: When you’re 40 and you do something big, like write a book or get a really great job, people say, Oh that’s great, but they really just expect it from you, because you’re 40.

Me: Right.

Chris: But if you DIE? They say, Oh she was so young.

Me: I hadn’t thought about that, but you’re right.

Chris: 40 is only young when you’re dead.

Me: That makes me feel good. Thanks.

Someone should stitch that on a really big pillow.

That’s our Chris…

That totally sounds like one of Jack Handey’s Deep Thoughts.

So very true! I always thought I’d have my first novel published by age 27, and it would be so incredible because it would be so GOOD and I’d be so YOUNG. Here I am at 39 putting the finishing touches on my first real novel (not yet snapped up by a publisher), but, meh. I’m almost 40. And it’s long overdue.

oh i feel so much better now.

Well, if that’s the case, I’ll stick with being a little old for now!

You are welcome.
Also, you love me.

I always feel that getting older is better than not getting older…

I’m going to make that into a refrigerator magnet.

Also am I the only one who is offended by having to SCROLL to my birth year every time I fill out an online form?

Because I am. Offended.

How true it is. And isn’t 40 the new 25? I almost said 20, but really, who are we kidding?

The other day I heard that Hugh Hefner was quoted as saying that “80 is the new 40″. I know, I know that is just all kinds of wrong!

Susan, I just wanted to say that I’ve really been enjoying reading your posts over the last two weeks or so. Thank you again for your great writing and humor!!
